Prenatal Pilates

Pilates is a safe, gentle, low impact form of exercise that builds strength through a series of controlled movements that won’t put your body under strain, and that will strengthen your tummy, back and pelvic floor muscles. These muscles are important for posture, balance and strength, alleviating the strain on your spine to prevent back pain, and supporting your pelvis during pregnancy and after the birth.

Pilates is a mind body exercise which helps to relax your body, focus your mind and boost your mood and energy levels. Deep breathing techniques and relaxation are important in controlling how to perform Pilates exercises, and are useful skills during labour and birth.

Benefits

  • Sociable and relaxed time out for you

  • Helps to reduce abdominal separation

  • Whole body strengthening ready for the toddler years

  • Increased energy, better sleep and improved wellbeing

  • Strengthens and re-trains pelvic floor muscles

Pilates is a great way to relax and prepare the body and mind for motherhood, with classes focusing on strengthening and stability to target areas most affected by pregnancy and birth. Sessions include stretches and mobility exercises to strengthen your spine and upper body and open your chest, helping to relieve tension and avoid back problems.

Specific and tailored movement sequences will also strengthen your pelvic floor muscles, encourage abdominal muscles to draw back together, and help you to regain your posture.

Regular classes will gradually strengthen your stomach, hips and back muscles to help support your spine and relieve residual lower back pain and pelvic floor discomfort.

Exercise improves sleep quality and increases the production of endorphins, which increases positivity, gives you energy, improves your mood and reduces fatigue.
